![]() I ordered the newest Pixel from Google two days earlier, within hours of the laptop’s launch. ![]() Twenty-five months later, the notebook refreshed-refined rather than revolutionized-beating Apple to market shipping a laptop with USB Type-C, which brings new connectivity and charging options.įedEx delivered the costliest Chromebook configuration to my door on Friday the 13th, in March. The company introduced the original in February 2013, available in two configurations. If you’re going to manufacturer one thing, then it should be exceptional, which is the other way I describe Chromebook Pixel LS. *Update: it's possible to watch a Netflix movie offline.Nperfect is how I describe Google’s newest, and only, computer. In summary: the Chromebook is an inexpensive mobile platform that is essentially self-repairing, self-updating, secure, extremely fast, and where (I believe) all future laptop operating systems are ultimately headed. I typically can use my Pixelbook for a couple of days without recharging. You're just not going to get the Pixelbook's zero-lag performance on a Windows 10 ultraportable or 12-inch MacBook that use very-low-power Intel Y series processors (which the $999 Pixelbook does).Īnd it's hard to obsolete an older Chromebook (in fact, 2016 models are good options) because they still offer good performance.īattery life: the Chrome OS is battery life friendly. The Pixelbook's snappy performance is tied to the efficiency of the Chrome OS. (See Pixelbook raw benchmark performance here and here.) ![]() So, it doesn't take much to make Chrome fast. That said, my 2016 HP Chromebook 13 is fast too. As I've written before, I've put it to the test running lots of Chrome tabs (a dozen or so), a photo editing app, social media apps, and Microsoft Word. Performance: The Pixelbook is incredibly fast in day to day use with no lag. Or, in my case, I downloaded HP Print for Chrome (I use an HP Officejet 5740) and installed the printer that way. Printing: Printing is done via Google Cloud Print. Here's some help from Google if you need it. You can also pin frequently used apps to the bottom of the screen. Then, either type in the name or scroll through a list of apps. Want to launch on app? Click on the launcher in the lower left of the screen. For example, right now I'm running the Chrome browser, Microsoft Word, Skype, and Polarr (image editor) concurrently in separate windows. It uses the Chrome browser to run a lot of stuff, though most apps can be windowed (with multiple windows running at the same time). The most important thing to remember is, the Chrome OS is a mobile OS (like iOS) running on a laptop. ![]() But I have found it pretty intuitive for the most part. Using the Chrome OS: Like any new operating system, it will take a day or two to find all the nooks and crannies of Chrome. ![]()
